Methane

‘SCRUBBING’ CO2: It’s well known that trees take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. New research says they also give off methane, a much stronger greenhouse gas.

This is an unused concept piece for an article on Methane, Trees and thier role in Global Warming. I am sure a few chemistry majors will get a kick out of this piece…. :-)

Tuesday Marvel Q&A: Steve Sadowski + Jim Krueger

Alex Ross’ close collaborators shed light on the moments that made AVENGERS/INVADERS a hit and how the finale changes everything…

Buddy Steve Sadowski is interviewed by Marvel News… Check it out!

Though it launched amidst the onslaught of SECRET INVASION, the time-hopping crossover series AVENGERS/INVADERS defied trends and reignited fan interest in the 1940’s super team it returned to the modern Marvel Universe. By focusing on an in-continuity meeting with ramifications for both teams, the 12-issue epic headlined by acclaimed painter Alex Ross proves with each new installment that Marvel’s past remains influential on its present.

With the first volume hitting in trade paperback this June and the lynchpin ninth issue kicking off the series’ final third on April 1, we tapped series co-writer Jim Krueger and interior artist Steve Sadowski for their thoughts on what it took to make the series matter from the start and what the return of even more Golden Age super heroes and villains means for the upcoming finale.

Extrasolar Planets – Extrasolar Plants

Scientists seeking clues to life on extrasolar planets are studying various biosignatures found in the light spectrum leaking out to Earth. They are speculating on what kind of photosynthesis might occur on such planets and what the extrasolar plants might look like.

This illustration was recently done for an article on Extrasolar Plant life.

Cathedral Number 01 – Oil on Canvas

One of our latest paintings that we just pulled out of the storage boxes. Unfinished at this point.
It is one of the Cathedrals in downtown Guadalajara. I am still torn as to go ‘looser’ or ‘tighter’ on the actual execution. Most of our stuff is really tight so I was hoping to learn how to loosen up a bit…
ahhh.. evolve and learn….

Global Super Organism – Focus Italy

Global society can be defined by incorporating concepts from cybernetics, evolutionary theory, and complex adaptive systems and can therefore be seen as a network of self-producing components, and therefore as a living system or “superorganism”.

A superorganism is a higher-order, “living” system, whose components are organisms themselves. (in this case, individual humans and thier technology).

This is an outtake/concept sketch for a full page illustration which was commissioned Focus Magazine on the emergence of a true ‘global’ intelligence.

There is a rather dry (but still a cool read) piece on this concept by Francis HEYLIGHEN at the University of Brussels – http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/Papers/Superorganism.pdf

The Pharos of Alexandria – NG Kids

This digital painting was commissioned by National Geographic Kids for a special issue on the 7 Wonders of the World.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria (or The Pharos of Alexandria, Greek: ὁ Φάρος τῆς Ἀλεξανδρείας) was a tower built in the 3rd century BC (between 285 and 247 BC) on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt to serve as that port’s

landmark, and later, its lighthouse.

With a height variously estimated at between 115 and 200 m (380 and 660 ft) it was among the tallest man-made structures on Earth for many centuries, and was identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by Antipater of Sidon. It may have been the third tallest building after the two Great Pyramids (of Khufu and Khafra) for its entire life. Some scholars estimate that would make the tower the tallest building up to the 14th century.
